Geforce GTX 770 224384 MB/sec
Difference: 95616 (43%)

Texel Rate

The Geforce GTX 770 will be a bit (more or less 5%) better at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon R9 290. (explain)

Geforce GTX 770 133888 Mtexels/sec
Radeon R9 290 128000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 5888 (5%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon R9 290 is the winner, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon R9 290 51200 Mpixels/sec
Geforce GTX 770 33472 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 17728 (53%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in a second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card can possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.

DODO says:
