Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Geforce GTX 770 230 Watts
Radeon HD 7990 375 Watts
Difference: 145 Watts (63%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 7990 should be 157% quicker than the Geforce GTX 770 in general, because of its higher data rate. (explain)

Radeon HD 7990 576000 MB/sec
Geforce GTX 770 224384 MB/sec
Difference: 351616 (157%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 7990 should be much (more or less 82%) better at texture filtering than the Geforce GTX 770. (explain)

Radeon HD 7990 243200 Mtexels/sec
Geforce GTX 770 133888 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 109312 (82%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 7990 will be much (more or less 82%) faster with regards to FSAA than the Geforce GTX 770, and should be able to handle higher resolutions more effectively. (explain)

Radeon HD 7990 60800 Mpixels/sec
Geforce GTX 770 33472 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 27328 (82%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

One or more cards in this comparison are multi-core. This means that their bandwidth, texel and pixel rates are theoretically doubled - this does not mean the card will actually perform twice as fast, but only that it should in theory be able to. Actual game benchmarks will give a more accurate idea of what it's capable of.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in a second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
