Compare any two graphics cards:
GeForce GTX 660 vs Radeon HD 7850
IntroThe GeForce GTX 660 makes use of a 28 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core speed at 980 MHz. The GDDR5 memory works at a speed of 1502 MHz on this card. It features 960 SPUs as well as 80 TAUs and 24 ROPs.Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 7850, which has a GPU core clock speed of 860 MHz, and 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory set to run at 1200 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is comprised of 1024 Stream Processors, 64 Texture Address Units, and 32 Raster Operation Units.

BenchmarksThese are real-world performance benchmarks that were submitted by Hardware Compare users. The scores seen here are the average of all benchmarks submitted for each respective test and hardware.
3DMark Fire Strike Graphics Score
Power Usage and Theoretical BenchmarksPower Consumption (Max TDP)
Memory BandwidthThe Radeon HD 7850 should theoretically be just a bit faster than the GeForce GTX 660 in general. (explain)
Texel RateThe GeForce GTX 660 will be much (about 42%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 7850. (explain)
Pixel RateThe Radeon HD 7850 is a small bit (about 17%) better at full screen anti-aliasing than the GeForce GTX 660, and will be capable of handling higher screen resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)
Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit. Price Comparison

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions. Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second. Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.

16 Responses to “GeForce GTX 660 vs Radeon HD 7850”i have sapphire 7850 2gb oc but gtx 660 better
evga gtx660 is alot better than 7850.Gtx660 beat 7850 easily
I bought the GTX 660 for 1366x768, and easily touched 60fps at all games
Can anyone ans is texal rate so important?
I have a 7850 OC. That's dumb. 660 is much and much better! Even for linux.
660 or 7850 oc...
is amd better on 1680 X 1080
as an engineer i'd say all those tests are more or less biased.
from a sticktly technical point of view hd7850 should be a much more powerful card
it's not only about the gpu /memory clocks
hd 7850 is much more customizable and OC-efficient.
I have the 660 and my friend has the 7850, when we compared frames on games such as bf3 and wow (using same processor) the 660 came out on top by about 5 fps
I think the saddest part about this benchmark is, AMD's 7850 is $100 cheaper.
gtx 660 is in stock better than the 7850 in stock clock, but when it comes to overclocking, the 7850 has a little advantage overall. Still nvidia has physx built in 🙂
me cago en tus muertos
i won the gtx 660 evga for the win signature 2 edition and its blazing fast.
Hi,im thinking on buying one of the two.And i just want to know which is better the gtx 660 or the 7850?
Which is better if I have AMD A10-5800k APU?
