Geforce GTX 670 vs Radeon HD 7850

Intro

The Geforce GTX 670 has a core clock speed of 915 MHz and a GDDR5 memory frequency of 1500 MHz. It also uses a 256-bit memory bus, and uses a 28 nm design. It features 1344 SPUs, 112 TAUs, and 32 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 7850, which uses a 28 nm design. AMD has set the core frequency at 860 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM runs at a frequency of 1200 MHz on this particular model. It features 1024 SPUs as well as 64 Texture Address Units and 32 ROPs.

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Geforce GTX 670 should be much faster than the Radeon HD 7850 overall. (explain)

Geforce GTX 670 192000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 7850 153600 MB/sec
Difference: 38400 (25%)

Texel Rate

The Geforce GTX 670 should be a lot (about 86%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 7850. (explain)

Geforce GTX 670 102480 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 7850 55040 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 47440 (86%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the Geforce GTX 670 is superior to the Radeon HD 7850, but it probably won't make a huge difference. (explain)

Geforce GTX 670 29280 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 7850 27520 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 1760 (6%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface within a second. It is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.

I have recently bought GTX 670...due to HD 7850 wasn't enough powerfull to max out my brand new Crysis 3 game!
I was Between GTX 670 and HD 7970 but considering that GTX 670 is using much lower power consumption and have more overclock stabillity than HD 7970 was the reason that i bought GTX 670!!!

Both cards are great if you play sport/rpg/simulator/strategy games then go for AMD if you play games like Battlefield 3 or Crysis 3 or Batman Arkham city then nVidia all the way!
Moreover nVidia drivers are much better than ATi's is!

So I bought the HD 7850 and I overclocked it to 1050 mhz Core Clock and 1450 mhz Memory Clock WITHOUT any changes to power! This GPU is simply a beast if you OC it. Its even better than an R9 270X now. I deffinately recommend you to buy it. It is really cheap and it can run Fallout 4 on max setting easily!
