Radeon HD 7870 175 Watts
Difference: 30 Watts (21%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the Radeon HD 7870 should perform a lot faster than the GeForce GTS 250 1GB overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 7870 153600 MB/sec
GeForce GTS 250 1GB 70400 MB/sec
Difference: 83200 (118%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 7870 will be a lot (approximately 69%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce GTS 250 1GB. (explain)

Radeon HD 7870 80000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTS 250 1GB 47232 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 32768 (69%)

Pixel Rate

If running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon HD 7870 is the winner, by far. (explain)

Radeon HD 7870 32000 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTS 250 1GB 11808 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 20192 (171%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
