Radeon HD 7870 vs Radeon HD 7950 3GB

Intro

The Radeon HD 7870 makes use of a 28 nm design. AMD has set the core frequency at 1000 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM is set to run at a speed of 1200 MHz on this card. It features 1280 SPUs as well as 80 TAUs and 32 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all that to the Radeon HD 7950 3GB, which comes with a clock speed of 800 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 1250 MHz. It also uses a 384-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 28 nm design. It features 1792 SPUs, 112 TAUs, and 32 ROPs.

Radeon HD 7870 175 Watts
Radeon HD 7950 3GB 200 Watts
Difference: 25 Watts (14%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon HD 7950 3GB, in theory, should be quite a bit faster than the Radeon HD 7870 in general. (explain)

Radeon HD 7950 3GB 240000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 7870 153600 MB/sec
Difference: 86400 (56%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 7950 3GB will be just a bit (more or less 12%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon HD 7870. (explain)

Radeon HD 7950 3GB 89600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 7870 80000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 9600 (12%)

Pixel Rate

If running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon HD 7870 is a better choice, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon HD 7870 32000 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 7950 3GB 25600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 6400 (25%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface within a second. It is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.

Alright, so I have a single 1080p display. I want the better video card to max out any games with. I'm not really that interested in AA but I'd sure like to max it out. I'm ready to pay up anything for any build/model of those 2 cards (DD, GHz etc).
Thanks a lot in advance!
