GeForce GT 450 (OEM) vs Radeon HD 7770

Intro

The GeForce GT 450 (OEM) comes with a GPU clock speed of 790 MHz, and the 1536 MB of GDDR5 RAM is set to run at 1000 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is comprised of 144 SPUs, 24 TAUs, and 24 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon HD 7770, which has core clock speeds of 1000 MHz on the GPU, and 1125 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 640 SPUs as well as 40 TAUs and 16 ROPs.

Radeon HD 7770 80 Watts
GeForce GT 450 (OEM) 106 Watts
Difference: 26 Watts (33%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the GeForce GT 450 (OEM) should theoretically be much superior to the Radeon HD 7770 overall. (explain)

GeForce GT 450 (OEM) 96000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 7770 72000 MB/sec
Difference: 24000 (33%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 7770 is quite a bit (more or less 111%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce GT 450 (OEM). (explain)

Radeon HD 7770 40000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 450 (OEM) 18960 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 21040 (111%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GT 450 (OEM) is a bit (more or less 19%) faster with regards to AA than the Radeon HD 7770, and will be able to handle higher resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

GeForce GT 450 (OEM) 18960 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 7770 16000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 2960 (19%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
