Radeon HD 4750 vs Radeon HD 6670 (OEM)

Intro

The Radeon HD 4750 comes with a GPU clock speed of 730 MHz, and the 512 MB of GDDR5 memory runs at 800 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 640(128x5) SPUs, 32 TAUs, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM), which has a core clock speed of 800 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 1000 MHz. It also uses a 128-bit bus, and makes use of a 40 nm design. It features 480 SPUs, 24 TAUs, and 8 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 63 Watts
Radeon HD 4750 75 Watts
Difference: 12 Watts (19%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) will be 25% quicker than the Radeon HD 4750 in general, because of its higher bandwidth. (explain)

Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 64000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 4750 51200 MB/sec
Difference: 12800 (25%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 4750 is a lot (more or less 22%) better at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM). (explain)

Radeon HD 4750 23360 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 19200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 4160 (22%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 4750 will be quite a bit (more or less 83%) more effective at full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM), and should be capable of handling higher resolutions while still performing well. (explain)

Radeon HD 4750 11680 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 6400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 5280 (83%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card can possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
