GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 vs Radeon HD 6670 (OEM)

Intro

The GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 comes with a GPU core clock speed of 550 MHz, and the 512 MB of GDDR5 memory runs at 850 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also features 96 SPUs, 32 Texture Address Units, and 8 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM), which has a core clock frequency of 800 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 1000 MHz. It also features a 128-bit memory bus, and uses a 40 nm design. It features 480 SPUs, 24 TAUs, and 8 ROPs.

Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 63 Watts
GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 70 Watts
Difference: 7 Watts (11%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) should be a bit faster than the GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 in general. (explain)

Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 64000 MB/sec
GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 54400 MB/sec
Difference: 9600 (18%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) will be a little bit (more or less 9%) better at AF than the GeForce GT 240 GDDR5. (explain)

Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 19200 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 17600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 1600 (9%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) is superior to the GeForce GT 240 GDDR5, by far. (explain)

Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 6400 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 4400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 2000 (45%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card can possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
