Radeon HD 5770 vs Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB

Intro

The Radeon HD 5770 features core speeds of 850 MHz on the GPU, and 1200 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 800(160x5) SPUs as well as 40 TAUs and 16 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB, which makes use of a 40 nm design. ATi has set the core speed at 650 MHz. The GDDR5 memory works at a speed of 1000 MHz on this particular model. It features 480 SPUs along with 24 TAUs and 8 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 50 Watts
Radeon HD 5770 108 Watts
Difference: 58 Watts (116%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon HD 5770 will be 20% quicker than the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB in general, due to its higher bandwidth. (explain)

Radeon HD 5770 76800 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 64000 MB/sec
Difference: 12800 (20%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 5770 should be a lot (approximately 118%) better at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB. (explain)

Radeon HD 5770 34000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 15600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 18400 (118%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon HD 5770 is a better choice, by a large margin. (explain)

Radeon HD 5770 13600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 5200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 8400 (162%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface in a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
