GeForce GT 430 vs Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB

Intro

The GeForce GT 430 makes use of a 40 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 700 MHz. The GDDR3 memory runs at a frequency of 900 MHz on this particular card. It features 96 SPUs as well as 16 Texture Address Units and 4 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB, which makes use of a 40 nm design. AMD has clocked the core frequency at 650 MHz. The GDDR5 memory is set to run at a frequency of 1000 MHz on this card. It features 480 SPUs along with 24 Texture Address Units and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

GeForce GT 430 60 Watts
Difference: 10 Watts (20%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB should perform much faster than the GeForce GT 430 overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 64000 MB/sec
GeForce GT 430 28800 MB/sec
Difference: 35200 (122%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB will be a lot (more or less 39%) better at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GT 430. (explain)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 15600 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 430 11200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 4400 (39%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB will be much (more or less 86%) faster with regards to FSAA than the GeForce GT 430, and also should be able to handle higher screen resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 5200 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 430 2800 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 2400 (86%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in a second. It's worked out by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip could possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
