Radeon HD 5670 vs Radeon HD 6450 (OEM)

Intro

The Radeon HD 5670 comes with a GPU core speed of 775 MHz, and the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM is set to run at 1000 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 400(80x5) SPUs, 20 TAUs, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM), which comes with clock speeds of 625 MHz on the GPU, and 800 MHz on the 512 MB of GDDR3 RAM. It features 160 SPUs as well as 8 Texture Address Units and 4 Rasterization Operator Units.

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 31 Watts
Radeon HD 5670 61 Watts
Difference: 30 Watts (97%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 5670 should be quite a bit faster than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 5670 64000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 12800 MB/sec
Difference: 51200 (400%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 5670 will be quite a bit (approximately 210%) better at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM). (explain)

Radeon HD 5670 15500 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 5000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 10500 (210%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 5670 should be much (about 148%) better at AA than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM), and also will be able to handle higher resolutions better. (explain)

Radeon HD 5670 6200 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 2500 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 3700 (148%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.

Mine is ASUS eah5670, it comes with an added feature of extended card life span. Probably upto 25%.
And i must say it is a beast. Gorgeous graphics, smooth performance and in comparison to other beastly cards it is but highly power efficient. I wud most definitely rank 5670 above 6450 without further hesitation. At such price range getting a card as such 5670 is quite tough and a challenge
